A better future is possible for our tamariki and rangitane.

Volunteer

There are so many different ways you can Volunteer at Te Whare Oranga Children’s Home. Whether you have a lot of time to spare or just an hour once a week, there is somewhere you can lend a hand to have an incredible impact into the lives of these children.

All Te Whare Oranga volunteers will be required to be police check and CYRAS (Oranga Tamariki database) checked. They will also need to sign a privacy statement ensuring they will keep the location of Te Whare Oranga and details about individual children confidential. This is for the safety and protection of the tamariki in our care.

Mentoring

If you want to make a huge impact in the life of one of our Tamariki aged four and up, we would love you to become one of Mentor’s. Having consistent one on one time has a huge positive influence for our children, this could look like kicking a ball around, heading to the park

We ask that our Mentor’s spend approximately two hours a week with the Tamariki they are paired with. This would ideally be on a Saturday morning.

Babysitting

If you are eager to be involved in caring for our Tamariki in the home we would love to encourage you to become one of our babysitters. This could be regular babysitting for example every Monday night or on an on call basis. When babysitting you wouldn’t be in the home alone but relieving one of the two caregivers while they go to connect group, creative team night or out for some time to themselves.  We would love to have a list of on call babysitters for one off events when one of the caregivers need to be out of the home.

Caregivers

Our caregivers will stay in the home one night a week. They will play a major role in the life of the Tamariki and develop important relationships that will allow them to heal and grow.
