Our Vision

The outcomes of young people aging out of foster care are not good. They often enter adulthood with unresolved hurt and trauma. This leads to generational cycles of abuse. Children who come into care are scared, angry confused and hurt. Te Whare Oranga is a solution that will change the future of children families and communities by not only providing safety but a therapeutic program focussed on connection and attachment where children can begin to work through the intense pain that brought them into care. We see the children leaving our home being emotionally resilient and capable of growing into adults who are great parents and contributing members of society.

It’s about more than one child, Te Whare Oranga will change generations.

It’s easier to build strong children than to repair broken adults.

2015

Lifehouse Trust was originally set up as its own charitable trust in 2015 with the intention of building a home for young women who were at risk due emotionally, socially and in respect of their physical and psychological health. The Lifehouse team and supporters worked and fundraised hard.

2019

In 2019 some of the programs and services provided by Lifehouse Trust were amalgamated into Vision Community Trust due to the two Trusts similar missions and to take advantage of the strong financial position and experience of Vision Community Trust. With this amalgamation came a rebrand and rename from Lifehouse Trust to Lifehouse – Te Whare Oranga to reflect our commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and recognise the rich heritage of the community and people we serve. Lifehouse - Te Whare Oranga is now governed by two boards Lifehouse Trust and Vision Community Trust.

2020

Despite the challenges seen by the global pandemic of 2020 Lifehouse Trust established & opened it’s first home in the Manawatu. Since then Lifehouse has assisted in the longterm, transitional or respite care of 15 children.
